Aka the Dragon

A birthday gift for my buddy, ~Utdragongirl. She likes dragons. A lot.

I tried some new things with this one including the incorporation of a complete wireframe/tinfoil skeleton. It was a bit tricky getting all the foil to stay together, but the skeleton uses a lot less clay and makes it easier to build bigger sculpts.

According to my friends taking Japanese class, Aka's name literally translates as "red". His design combines aspects of both the European and the Chinese dragon. Aka ended up a bit more...chunky and horse-like than originally intended, but he's still pretty awesome . :\

Aka is 8cm tall, 13 cm long, and 5cm wide. (For one of my sculpts, that's pretty freaking big.) His eyes are glazed, the necklace is made from plastic beads and a bell that really rings, and Aka himself is made from Sculpey clay. At a rough estimate, he took 11 hours to complete. X.X
